Are You A New Creation?
Anyone that knows me knows that I am somewhat obsessed with frogs. I mean what's not to love, they come in all colors, shapes and sizes and I love them all! Did you know that toads are frogs too but frogs aren't toads, both are amphibians and you are too. Sort of. The life cycle of a frog starts out as an egg and that egg changes into a tadpole and then eventually the tadpole changes into a frog (or toad). The cool thing is that during the transformation process the tadpole's gills turn to lungs, his tail is absorbed as arms and legs sprout and his solely aquatic existence suddenly changes to one more preferable for dwelling on land. A tadpole pretty much looks, acts and operates more like a fish than a frog. For all practical purposes the tadpole turns into a completely new creation. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, He is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" Just like a tadpole turns to a frog, you as a sinner turn into a redeemed creation, a new creation, when you accept Jesus Christ as your savior. He makes you an entirely new thing. Even though frogs and toads have to live near water to survive, if they tried to go back to living under water without coming up for air they would drown because they have been made into a new thing with lungs and not gills. The same is true when we as believers try to go back to our old lives before being transformed into a new creation. Since we all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God as it says in Romans 3:23 must be made into a new creation otherwise we will die in our sin. Are you a new creation?
