Appalachian Dragons

When did we lose our need to explore?  How old were you when you no longer believed in the magic of untamed wilderness?  The beauty and wildness of Western North Carolina still holds that wondrous awe that so many of us have lost as a result of becoming more civilized.  There are dragons to be discovered, like the Hellbender, that live cryptic lives only to be found by chance meeting in unpolluted streams.  There are so many wonderful creatures just beyond the trail’s edge and yet we confine ourselves to cubicles and manicured back yards.  It’s time to reacquaint ourselves with the unknown and venture into the deep green of our remaining forests.  We have to experience the glory and mystery of the woods to hopefully grow our compassion to save it.
